Damon Braces vs Traditional Braces: The Movement Towards Natural Force To Move Teeth

Posted on |

As technology advances and the orthodontic industry evolves, the way we move teeth is becoming increasingly efficient and effective. We’ve discussed the basics of Damon braces in a previous blog post, but we would like to dive in further and talk about the true “Damon difference.”

A self-ligating system

Damon braces are a type of self-ligating braces. This technology uses a system of clips or doors to hold the wire in place. The absence of ties or bands to secure the wire is the biggest distinction between Damon braces and traditional braces.  The absence of ties eliminates the need for “re-tie” appointments as the doors keep the wires active all the time, meaning patients will not have to come in to the office as often throughout treatment. Without ties, these braces are also easier to keep clean. Clean teeth move faster and more effectively, which can help shorten your treatment time while also maintaining good oral hygiene. Above all, the self-ligating system allows us to move teeth using light, natural forces.

Natural force

The use of natural force is the true “Damon difference.” The self-ligating system reduces binding and allows the memory wires we use to slide and move naturally with your teeth as they align. The system works with your gums and bones to gently guide the teeth into place.

Using natural, physiological force to move teeth is not only more comfortable, but it is also more efficient. Treatment time for Damon braces patients is often significantly shorter. Traditional braces use a decent amount of force and pressure to shift your teeth, which can be a much longer (and more uncomfortable) process. The use of lighter force also reduces the need for expanders and extractions that are often required with traditional braces.

We offer the Damon System to our patients because we truly believe it is one of the best options available. It helps us achieve our top priorities—comfort for patients, efficient treatment time, and outstanding results.
