Giving back to our community is one of our core values and top priorities at our office. Serving others is at the heart of orthodontics and we are constantly looking for ways to further give back to our community. At the beginning of February, our team volunteered for the 15th year for Smiles for Kids as we open our doors as one of the sites that provide treatment. This is a cause that is close to our hearts, and we want to take some time to give you all some additional insight and explain why we love Smiles for Kids so much!
What is “Smiles for Kids?”
Smiles for Kids is an event put on by the Sacramento District Dental Foundation in partnership with local schools. The Foundation is part of the Sacramento District Dental Society, which took on Smiles for Kids in 2003. The event offers screenings and the opportunity to receive no-cost treatment to thousands of underserved children. This project also aims to increase public health by educating kids about oral health and the importance of dental and orthodontic treatment.
We volunteer for the event each year, as well as “adopt” children will receive treatment for free. The program is funded completely by donations from the foundation, and the orthodontists and dentists who participate are not paid in any way.
Our Involvement
We make an effort to have as many of our team members as possible volunteer at this annual event and we open the doors of our West Sacramento office as one of the host sites. Each year, we “adopt” several kids through this program to receive free orthodontic treatment. Additionally, Dr. Giannetti serves as the Vice President of the Sacramento District Dental Foundation to further her involvement in their philanthropic efforts.
It is our passion to give back to our community, and we love the mission of the Foundation and the Smiles For Kids program. Everyone deserves a healthy, beautiful smile. Poor oral health can affect kids’ overall health and performance in school—regardless of socioeconomic status or situation. We love taking part in helping underserved children have a better, healthier smile and overall better quality of life.
