One of our core values is giving back and making a difference in the community. We’re proud to support many worthy organizations whose missions we believe in, including these six below.
American Association of Orthodontics
We are members of the American Association of Orthodontists. This is a professional organization that represents approximately 19,000 orthodontists in the U.S., Canada, and abroad. Its mission is to “advance our members’ success through education, advocacy, and research that drive excellence in patient care.” We are so passionate about organized dentistry that Dr. Giannetti has had several leadership positions at the AAO representing the Pacific Coast of North America at international meetings. The AAO’s website is a good resource for patients who want to learn more about orthodontic treatment or who want to locate a qualified orthodontist in their area.
Sacramento District Dental Foundation
This last February marked the 15th year our office was involved in the Smiles for Kids event put on by the Sacramento District Dental Foundation in partnership with schools. Its mission is to “promote the oral and general health of the public.” The annual Smiles for Kids event offers screenings and free treatment to thousands of underserved children in the community. As participants, we volunteer for the event and also “adopt” the kids whom we’ll be treating at no cost. Our practice usually adopt 2 kids per year. Read more about this initiative here.
Invisalign Study Club of Northern California
This group just celebrated its 10-year anniversary in June. As members, we meet four times a year to collaborate with each other and to brainstorm ideas together. It’s an opportunity for us to keep up-to-date on how Invisalign is used by other orthodontists and allows us to connect with our peers.
Orthodontic Assisting Program at the FADE Institute
Dr. Giannetti is the director of the Orthodontic Assisting Program (OAP) at the Foundation for Allied Dental Education, or FADE, whose mission is “to provide quality continuing education, professional development, and learning resources” to clinical practitioners. The OAP is one of the many courses offered, and it teaches registered dental assistants what they need to know to become orthodontic assistants and helps prepare them to take the State Board examination.
The American Association of Women Dentists – UCLA Chapter
Last December, Dr. Giannetti had the honor of speaking to the UCLA chapter of the American Association of Women Dentists. Its mission is to be “the leading resource for advancing, connecting and enriching the lives of women dentists” and does that through various programs in its dozens of chapters throughout the country.
National Multiple Sclerosis Society
The only non-teeth-related organization on this list, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is one we have recently begun to support. In April, we participated in the Walk MS: Sacramento walk to raise funds to end MS.
The Community That Supports Us
We strongly believe in supporting the community that supports us. We believe it is our responsibility not only to help our patients achieve a beautiful smile but also to support the community with resources to provide for the patients’ well-being as a whole. We sponsor schools, sports team, arts and music where our patients are involved as we understand how important those programs are for our patients’ well-being and development.
Making a Difference
We both believe in the value of giving back, whether that’s by using our skills as orthodontists, mentoring other women, supporting the community, or something else that aligns with our values. We’re proud of our team members for taking part, too. We encourage you to check out the organizations listed above so you can see how they are making an impact in the world.
